The project includes the construction of two nine-story clinical and research facilities to support the growing academic and clinical needs of the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center and Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute. The Brain Institute, a neuroscience research laboratory facility, will have seven floors of research labs and a shell space for a future vivarium. The Cancer Center will house all cancer related care services, except radiation oncology. The new buildings will triple current cancer care capabilities on campus with new spaces for multidisciplinary care, genetic counseling, clinical trials, supportive care, and private treatment rooms.
In addition to the 590,000 SF buildings, the project also includes a 1,200-car parking garage, the installation of a new utility tunnel, tie-ins to the existing central utility plant, and associated site improvements. The project will be completed in June 2022.
