UTMB Dedicates Health Education Center

The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB) held a dedication ceremony in the lobby of its new Health Education Center. The interim president of UTMB, Dr. Ben Raimer, gave a nod to pioneering medical students and faculty members who began in the Ashbel Smith Building (Old Red) 128 years ago, saying, “Today, we celebrate their legacy of courage, hope, and innovation with the formal dedication of the UTMB Health Education Center. Within these walls, students of medicine, nursing, the health professions and the biomedical sciences will learn side-by-side in teams – to excel in teams in their future careers.”  The new facility is designed to combat a widespread shortage of physicians and medical staff across the country. With its 161,000 SF of adaptable learning spaces, the Health Education Center provides versatile teaching environments and study spaces, state-of-the-art simulation environments, and even a mock ambulance bay to expose students to realistic encounters with patient scenarios. Vaughn served as construction manager-at-risk for the new facility that opened in August. EYP served as the architect. Learn more about this project.
