The San Antonio State Hospital project team recently topped out the new San Antonio State Hospital. To celebrate the milestone, they hosted a socially-distanced barbecue lunch for the 300+ craft workers involved with the project. The project is a joint effort between the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. It will provide long-term and short-term residential and crisis treatment for patients with behavioral health issues. The 500,000 SF facility will contain support spaces for patient learning and therapy, administrative and clinical support spaces, a full kitchen, a half-court gymnasium, a chapel, a pharmacy, multiple courtyards, and surface parking. The project is anticipated to reach substantial completion in May 2023. HKS, Inc. is the architect.
