St. Thomas High School Baseball Field Construction Begins

St. Thomas High School hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking event in October for its new $5 million baseball field, on which Vaughn is the construction manager-at-risk. The event, which took place in St. Thomas High School’s gymnasium, provided a photo op for the board of directors, including President Fr. James Murphy, principal Aaron Dominguez, vice president for advancement Mark deTranaltes, and head baseball coach Adam Massiatte. While attendance was limited to promote social distancing, faculty, staff, community partners, and the design team gathered at the event.

The new baseball field will replace the high school’s existing Father Wilson Baseball Field and improve on some of the existing field’s deficiencies, including covered seating, with 440 chair-back seats, and covered batting and pitching cages to shade fans and athletes from hot weather conditions. Plus, the field will feature impermeable turf in lieu of natural grass, minimizing bad weather cancelations. The field will also house a video scoreboard, concession stand, press box, and locker rooms for home and visiting teams. Substantial completion is scheduled for April 2022. The architect is Stantec.
