Baylor University Cuts Ribbon at New Hurd Welcome Center

Baylor University recently commemorated the opening of its new Mark and Paula Hurd Welcome Center during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The dedication recognized the Hurd Welcome Center’s namesake and lead donors, Mark and Paula Hurd.

The Hurd Welcome Center is a 136,000 SF complex designed to create interest and enthusiasm in the university through a high-tech and interactive experience. The building features four columns representing a unique theme—Reflect, Connect, Aspire, and Amplify—and is customizable for various events and guests. The Reflect column showcases campus scenes and reflections, the Connect column immerses visitors in the Baylor experience, the Aspire column is personalized for prospective students, and the Amplify column highlights successful Baylor alumni.

The building will serve as a hub for approximately 60,000 prospective students, families, alumni, and guests visiting the campus every year.

The Hurd Welcome Center features striking spaces and amenities including the McLane Family Alumni Center, Carlton Hall, Ballroom, Spirit Shop, Admissions Center, Varsity Coffee Shop, Fudge Family Auditorium, Cheng Welcome Desk, Maris Terrace, Central Green, and Pavilion on the Green.

“Our family is absolutely thrilled with the Hurd Welcome Center,” said Paula Hurd. “When we made this gift, Mark had a vision for how a welcome experience could transform this corner of campus, and the outcome has by far exceeded our expectations and dreams.”
