The Texas A&M University System recently broke ground on the Texas A&M University Space Institute facility, for which Vaughn Construction serves as design-builder. The new 400,000 SF facility will be on a 32-acre plot north of NASA’s Johnson Space Center Houston and will provide simulated moon and Mars “scapes” that TAMU will lease for private industry development and testing. Texas A&M is a space grant university with a long history of conducting research and workforce development in space exploration since 1989. Space research thrives in over 12 colleges and schools within the university.
“As space exploration expands, there will be a growing demand for highly skilled engineers, scientists, and professionals,” said Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp ’72. “With this new facility, Texas A&M will create workforce development opportunities in space-related fields.”
The Texas A&M Space Institute establishes the university as a national leader in the crucial and growing field of space engineering. The institute is uniquely positioned to train the next generation of space experts by providing students with the skills required for the rapidly expanding space industry. The facility helps Texas maintain its position at the forefront of the new space age.
“I am excited to be involved in a project that will have an impact on Earth and space,” said a Vaughn project manager. “The institute will help propel technology into the future, and I am proud that Vaughn will play a role in pioneering the future of space exploration.”
The project is slated to reach substantial completion in 2026. We look forward to sharing more as the project progresses.
