The Houston Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) recognized Vaughn Concrete Production at its recent member awards banquet for our work at the Houston Methodist Centennial Tower Project. Our team was awarded a Project Excellence Award in the High-Rise Buildings/Structures category. This prestigious award recognizes the team's crucial role in the tower's construction, specifically their work on the concrete foundations.
Vaughn Concrete Production successfully completed a mass concrete placement for a massive pier cap, which is the major foundation element for the 11-level connector bridges from Centennial Tower to Walter Tower. The overall size of the pier cap was approximately 15’ tall x 7’ wide x 171’ long which required a total of 823 cubic yards of concrete and 350 tons of reinforcement. We engaged a thermal control engineer to keep the internal concrete temperatures below the maximum allowable threshold during curing and implemented a solution that consisted of flowing chilled water through a series of 1” PEX piping within the pier cap after concrete placement.
“This award is a testament to the tireless dedication of our team, who worked through challenging conditions to ensure the concrete foundation scope was a success,” said a Vaughn senior project manager. “We are honored to receive this achievement from Houston ACI.”
The Houston ACI Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards recognize exceptional concrete projects around the Houston area, celebrating innovation, complexity, achievement, and value in concrete construction.
