Project Overview

The Science Building houses the university’s biology and nursing program, which aims to boost workforce training for San Antonio’s biotech sector. The single-story facility provides state-of-the-art laboratory space to support biology, microbiology, anatomy, and physiology courses. It contains seven laboratories with fume hoods, a shared preparation corridor, and multipurpose student space. The exterior façade is comprised of masonry, metal panels, and glazing. The building features a learning area with a trellis, hammocks, limestone benches, and a shade structure.

Unique Challenge

Eight months before the project’s scheduled turnover date, our team identified a severe procurement delay. The electric motors we needed to operate the building’s two air handler units and to begin installing finishes experienced a substantial lead time increase after buyout, threatening the project schedule. Our team worked with the Owner and design team to address this challenge immediately. To provide the best value to the project, we procured a temporary air handler unit and were able to begin installing finishes on schedule while awaiting the electric motors.
