University of North Texas Health Science Center, East Garage Renovation

Vaughn is serving as the construction manager-at-risk to construct an additional level of parking to an existing, operational four-story parking garage. The university needed additional parking spaces to support the newly completed Interdisciplinary Research and Education Building, also built by Vaughn. The additional level, with 200 spaces, is comprised of a concrete slab on metal deck. We are installing additional electrical and plumbing infrastructure for the new level as well as a barrier cable system and metal panel screen wall. We are also extending the elevator to the additional floor. Considering the first day of classes, the university had an aggressive timeline for completion. We told the Owner meeting their timeline was not feasible. As a solution, we offered to complete the project in two phases. We are on track to complete the additional level of parking on time for use on the first day of school and complete the elevator extension and metal panel installation by the second substantial due date. Our ability to compromise and adjust for tight timelines satisfied the university's needs without compromising quality.
