Project Details

Client: University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio

Architect: EYP

Location: San Antonio, TX

Delivery: Construction Manager-at-Risk

Status: In Progress

The new facility project features a 144-bed hospital, medical office building and parking garage. The project allows the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio to offer cancer care and other specialties so it can expand and enhance access to translational research and clinical trials to a broader population of patients. It will house specialty equipment for cancer services and other specialties, including neurosciences, orthopedics, urology, thoracic surgery, and bariatrics. The bed tower’s façade will feature horizontal sunshades on its south side and vertical fins on its north side. Its glass-encased lobby and dining areas will feature floor-to-ceiling views of the outdoors, including a scenic garden and vistas of San Antonio's rolling landscape to the north. A 650-space parking garage, also constructed by Vaughn, will lie on the 12.2-acre site. Additionally, a pedestrian bridge across Floyd Curl Drive, one of the busiest streets in the South Texas Medical Center, will link the new hospital to UT Health San Antonio’s Mays Cancer Center, located on the existing campus. The project will be completed in the summer of 2024.
