Houston Methodist West, Phase 3A Expansion Celebrates Topping Out

300 representatives from Vaughn, Houston Methodist, BSA LifeStructures, Smith Seckman Reid, Walter P. Moore, and trade partners celebrated the topping out of the Houston Methodist West, Phase 3A Expansion!

“Our hospital quality and safety national rankings were just released—all Houston Methodist hospitals ranked in the top ten percent nationwide,” said Kyle Stanzel, vice president and chief operating officer at Houston Methodist West. “Houston Methodist West’s performance placed us in the top two percent in the country. This all starts with the dedication of [the Vaughn team and our trade partners] to building the very best facilities in the country from the ground up. Great facilities and great teams lead to unparalleled care.”

The 60,160 SF addition to the West Tower will feature an expanded emergency department, new surgical suites, and an observatory unit. Additionally, a one-story expansion to the original hospital will enhance food services by incorporating new refrigeration and dry storage areas. More than 70,00 SF of renovations within the existing hospital will support the expansion of the NICU, infusion center, digestive health center, and imaging services.

“Topping out is a major milestone because it marks the highest point of the structure,” said a Vaughn assistant project manager. “There is so much work that goes into reaching this point, and it really feels like a landmark moment.”

“We celebrate the topping out milestone to honor the dedication and hard work of every individual involved,” said a Vaughn project manager. “Our progress reflects the incredible effort and collaboration across the team. Reaching the highest point of the structure marks a proud moment to recognize our workers and the strides we have made together.”
