Project Overview

The addition to this existing student center provides dedicated student recreation space, a new eight-lane bowling alley, expandable party rooms, a catering kitchen, and five eating venues. We also added other food service spaces with a seating area for 250 people, multiple meeting rooms, and a large divisible ballroom that can accommodate 900 people. The addition was tied in to the existing facility which remained in operation throughout construction and a nearby parking garage.

Unique Challenge

Five days before the concrete work start date, our concrete trade contractor walked away from the project, leaving us no time to rebid without delays. To maintain the schedule and budget, we self-performed the concrete for same contract amount and utilized the same key trade contractors originally selected by the previous contractor to expedite the augercast piles and reinforcing steel. Within five days, we began installing augercast piles and other foundation elements with no schedule delay or added cost.
