Houston Methodist Hospital’s emergency room serves hundreds of patients a week, 24 hours a day. Our project involved renovating its emergency department in the Main 1 Building. We completed the work in multiple phases to accommodate the expansion of four triage rooms, six psych rooms, 10 fast track rooms, and various administrative and support areas, including nurse stations, patient areas, and work rooms.
To accommodate the new spaces, we upgraded all utilities. To minimize disruptions, we cut a temporary construction door in an exterior brick wall so our trade contractors could access the work site while avoiding contact with the staff or patients. We also built a corridor within a corridor to renovate the above-ceiling MEP systems and install a new ceiling in occupied areas. We planned and performed over 160 utility outages without incident or failure.
